What comes to mind when you think of jazz music? Contest: Sing Your Big Data Blues at Data Platforms 2017… Possibly Louis Armstrong, the saxophone, New Orleans and the Roaring Twenties – but what about big data? That might change for everyone joining us later this month for Data Platforms 2017, the first industry conference of its kind dedicated to helping data teams design, build and optimize their self-service big data platforms. The three-day conference will take place May 24 – 26, 2017, at the Wigwam Resort in Phoenix, Arizona.

After a full day of keynotes and deep-dive discussions with data team trailblazers at LinkedIn, eBay, Twitter and more, attendees at Day Two of the conference have the chance to relax and unwind at the “Data Lake” Pool Party & BBQ. Guests enjoying cocktails and dinner will be serenaded to the sultry tunes of the Big Data Blues band, singing their woes on ad-hoc workloads, ETL pipelines and data infrastructure struggles.

Does that sound like something you could sing along to? Well, here’s your chance – leading up to Data Platforms 2017, Qubole is running a contest to see who has the pipes to sing their own interpretation of the Big Data Blues. Winners will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Data Platforms 2017 and join the band live to perform!

You must use our lyrics, but you can create your own music. Record yourself playing and upload it to YouTube by Sunday, May 14. Contest: Sing Your Big Data Blues at Data Platforms 2017

Contest rules can be viewed here, and a full recording is available for listening below. Participants simply upload a video or audio recording of themselves singing the Big Data Blues, with free reign to put their own spin on the song and any instruments they choose.

Whether you’ll be singing yourself, or just want to relax and enjoy the blues, here’s a lyrical snippet of what’s in store:

Who says big data can’t be smooth and sultry? We can’t wait to hear your creative submissions, and we hope to see you at Data Platforms 2017.

Outta storage, yet again
I’m no machine, I’m just a man
You know my queries runnin’ late
my dashboards out of date
And the data I need never there for me
OH, someone please help me…
